    Life insurance exists to replace income for dependents during the years they rely on you. Term coverage buys that protection at a fraction of the cost of whole life. Whole life bundles insurance with a high-fee, low-return savings vehicle, so buying cheap term coverage and investing the premium savings separately leaves the policyholder with more money.

  2. The employer match is guaranteed immediate return

    No investment or debt payoff reliably beats it. Contributing enough to capture the full match should come ahead of almost every other financial goal, because declining it means turning down part of your pay.
