Solitude restores, but only in company
Withdrawal into wilderness does not heal through isolation alone. The solitary retreat works because it strips life down enough for a few genuine relationships, with a herder, a neighbour or a dog, to become visible and valuable. The hermit ideal breaks down under the actual loneliness of the mountain, and recovery arrives as reconnection rather than escape.
