Throwing away travels far
Choices about what to discard can have hidden effects on people and places thousands of miles away. Something that leaves your bin does not disappear; it moves somewhere, and someone distant lives with it.
Waste lands on the powerless
The burden of waste has always been pushed onto the people and places at the edges of society. Those with less power end up living beside the dumps, the sewage and the burning rubbish that others produce.
Waste is as old as people
People have always produced waste, so the problem cannot be blamed on modern life alone. What changes over time is how much is made and who is forced to carry it.
