  1. The rich boy's hunt beyond the wall

In 2023 Egypt, a bored teenager from Utopia, a guarded coastal colony for the rich, crosses into the slums with his girlfriend Germinal to hunt a poor person and bring back a body part as a trophy. When a mob turns on them, Gaber, an educated poor man, hides them in his home and helps them get back. The boy repays him by assaulting Gaber's sister and killing Gaber, then carrying his severed arm home as the trophy he came for.

  2. Satiated boredom converts privilege into cruelty

When every pleasure is available and nothing is at stake, the rich lose the ability to feel anything and seek escalating transgression to feel alive. Drugs and sex stop working, so violence against people they already see as lesser becomes the last intense experience left. Cruelty here comes from surplus and emptiness, not from need or anger.

  3. Elite secession into a guarded enclave

As inequality widens, the rich stop sharing a society with the poor. They withdraw into walled compounds with private supplies, services and hired foreign security. Once they no longer depend on shared public goods, they lose any interest in the outside world's survival, and the state outside decays into scarcity and mob rule.

  4. Physical separation erases the other's humanity

Read class through distance. When groups never share space, each reduces the other to a category: the rich see the poor as animals or game, and the poor see the rich as distant targets of rage. Gaber's lucid, educated voice sits beside the hunter's, which shows that the poor man's humanity was never missing, only unseen from behind the wall.
