  1. Fearing death is false knowledge

To fear death as the worst evil is to claim to know something nobody knows, since death may just as well be the greatest good. The fear itself is a pretence of wisdom, so a person who is good for anything should not weigh the odds of living or dying when deciding what is right.

  2. Never answer wrong with wrong

Being treated unjustly does not license doing injustice back; returning an injury is still doing evil, however much you have suffered. So a wrongful verdict does not free you to break the agreements you made, such as obeying the laws you accepted by living under them.

  3. Wisdom is knowing you don't know

The wisest person is not the one with the most answers but the one who doesn't mistake what he doesn't know for knowledge. Questioning people reputed to be wise shows that most of them think they know things they don't, so plainly admitting ignorance already puts you ahead.
