Misreadings can outlive their exposure
A text built on misunderstanding can still become a lasting classic. Each new group remakes it for its own purposes, whether psychology, drug culture or hospice care. Showing how it was put together does not end its influence, because its life now comes from these reuses, not from its fidelity to the original.
