Fotheringay stops the Earth's rotation
George McWhirter Fotheringay, a timid clerk, discovers in a pub argument that he can work miracles when he orders a lamp to burn upside down. Egged on by the minister Mr Maydig to use his power for good, he commands the Earth to stop rotating so the night will last longer, and everything not fixed down is flung off by momentum and the world is wrecked. He then wishes himself back to the moment before his first miracle, without the power, and the world resets with no one remembering.
