1. Secretary framed by her own advance double

   Dany Longo, a myopic Paris secretary, is asked by her employer Michel Caravaille to drive his family to the airport and return his white Thunderbird, but on impulse she drives it south toward the Mediterranean. Along the road she is attacked and her hand is injured, and gas-station attendants and café owners insist she passed through the day before, until she finds a corpse and a rifle in the trunk. The resolution shows that someone wearing her look had driven the route a day earlier to lay a witness trail, setting Dany up to be found dead as an apparent murderer and suicide.

2. Identity performed through portable surface markers

   Witnesses identify a stranger by a few salient props, such as a distinctive car, dark glasses, a white suit, or a bandaged hand, rather than by the face. So a person's public identity can be counterfeited by anyone who reproduces the markers. Real physical details can then be forced onto the genuine person afterward to match the forgery, so the copy comes first and the original is edited to fit it.

3. Self-doubt as the frame's accomplice

   A frame works best on someone who already distrusts her own perception. Dany is nearsighted, solitary, habitually self-deprecating and prone to imagined scenarios, so when strangers contradict her memory she questions her sanity before she questions them. Read this way, gaslighting depends less on the size of the lie than on the victim's prior readiness to believe her own mind is unreliable.

4. Consensus testimony can override lived experience

   When several independent witnesses agree on a fact, their agreement feels like proof even when it came from a single staged performance. The victim's firsthand memory counts as only one voice against many, so the pressure to accept the social record over private experience grows with each confirmation. Truth is restored only when someone traces the witnesses back to their common manufactured source rather than counting them.
