A late-night call-in show gave women a disembodied and anonymous channel where they could speak without being seen by family, neighbors or work units. Removing face-to-face exposure let them voice abuse, longing and grief that daytime social structures had made unsayable. The format of a medium can decide which truths a society is able to hear.
