   Bontle Tau, a young Johannesburg woman, narrates directly to the reader as she funds an apartment, designer clothes and a curated social-media image through several wealthy older men at once, each believing he has a particular claim on her. The arrangement demands constant scheduling, deception and emotional performance. The novel gradually exposes a childhood of poverty and sexual exploitation beneath the glamour, then shows the arrangement unravelling when the men's interests and her own secrets collide.

2. Early exploitation as an economic education

   Read the adult transactional choice as a lesson learned rather than a moral failing. A girl who learns in childhood that her body is what adults want, and that attaching herself to a man is how a household survives, grows up treating sexual access as her main bargaining asset. Seen this way, the confident, calculating adult becomes a continuation of her earlier victimization, not an escape from it.
