1. Economic collapse measured inside the marriage

   Read macroeconomic crisis through what it does inside a couple, not through figures. Unpaid debt turns into silence at dinner, blame, sexual withdrawal and quarrels over small sums. Watching the domestic unit shows the costs that GDP and unemployment rates cannot register: humiliation, the erosion of a man's role as provider, and the fraying of tenderness.

2. Fable as the language of disbelief

   When rational explanations of what is happening to people break down, their speech drifts into fable, dream, superstition and incantatory repetition. Ikonomou's long, breathless sentences and his half-magical episodes model this shift. They treat myth-making as a working-class method of absorbing an incomprehensible catastrophe. It is not an escape from reality.
