In 1999, amid the Reformasi crisis that followed Mahathir Mohamad's 1998 sacking and prosecution of his deputy Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysian National Laureate Shahnon Ahmad published a novella set inside a bowel. In it, a dominant turd presides over the others and drives out a rival, mirroring Mahathir's ouster of Anwar.
Recasting a ruling party as excrement moving through a bowel turns power into waste the body produces and is destined to expel. Rank, loyalty and succession become questions of position within the gut, not of merit. Under this lens, every leader's dominance looks temporary and biologically fated to end in ejection.
A satire built on crude filth creates a trap for the powerful. Officially banning it would amount to admitting that the leader recognizes himself in the excrement.
