Studying the self means forgetting it
To study the Buddha way is to study the self; to study the self is to forget the self; to forget the self is to be actualized by the myriad things. Close examination of the self does not turn up a fixed owner of experience. It removes the habit of treating one's viewpoint as the centre, so that things show up on their own terms and not as objects arranged around a subject.
