  1. Giving precedes and generates wealth

Capitalist production begins as an act of giving: the entrepreneur invests and supplies goods in advance, without a guaranteed return, before knowing whether anyone will buy. Wealth accrues to those who orient their effort toward the unknown needs of others rather than toward their own consumption.

  2. Enterprise as humility toward the unknown

The entrepreneur succeeds by submitting to a reality he cannot fully predict or control, testing ideas against the uncertain judgment of customers rather than imposing a plan. Entrepreneurial knowledge is therefore tacit, experimental, and distributed, which is why it cannot be centrally commanded or replaced by expert forecasting.

  3. Wealth is knowledge, not accumulated things

Material resources are inert until human insight makes them useful, so an economy's real capital is the mind and know-how of its people rather than its physical stock. This means wealth can be destroyed by seizing it from the minds that create it, and cannot simply be redistributed without extinguishing its source.

  4. Read the economy upward from the poor and new

Economic vitality is better judged by the opportunities open to the poor, the immigrant, and the new venture than by the comfort of established incumbents. Policies that protect the secure at the expense of the striving outsider sap the system's capacity to generate growth from below.

  5. Taxing success suppresses future supply

High marginal taxes and heavy regulation do not merely transfer income; they deter the risky, forward-looking investment that creates new goods and jobs. Because returns to enterprise are uncertain and come later, the penalty on eventual success discourages the whole chain of effort that would have produced it.

  6. Faith as the precondition of creation

Because entrepreneurs act before they can see the payoff, enterprise rests on an essentially religious faith: a confidence that disciplined giving into an uncertain future will be met with reward. A culture that loses this orientation toward hope and transcendence loses the psychological fuel for creation itself.
