1. Two Victorians Wake in 2472 Ireland

   A Victorian woman writer, furious after reading the 1889 'Appeal Against Female Suffrage' signed by prominent women, falls into a trance and wakes in the year 2472 alongside Augustus Fitz-Musicus, a foppish, casually misogynist young gentleman. They find Ireland renamed New Amazonia and governed by women, and the plot consists largely of their hosts dismantling Augustus's assumptions about female inferiority point by point. The episode stages an anti-suffrage objection, then refutes it by showing the objector a working society that contradicts it.

2. Female Incapacity Is Manufactured by Exclusion

   The traits cited to deny women the vote, such as frivolity, weakness and ignorance of public affairs, are produced by keeping women out of education, work and government. They are not evidence of women's nature. The novel places women in full command of a state and shows those traits disappearing, which makes the anti-suffrage argument circular: it uses the results of exclusion to justify continuing the exclusion.

3. Surplus Women as a Founding Population

   In the novel's invented history, a depopulated Ireland is resettled largely by Britain's 'surplus women', the unmarried excess that Victorian commentators treated as a social problem. This demographic group, dismissed as an embarrassment, becomes the political base of a new female-led nation. The mechanism is that a group marginalised at home can become the dominant constituency once it is moved to a place where it forms the majority.

4. Emancipation Bundled with State Bodily Regimen

   New Amazonia's progress is shown in its citizens' bodies: they are exceptionally tall, healthy and long-lived. This is achieved through state-enforced regimes such as vegetarian diet, bans on alcohol and tobacco, and eugenic control that eliminates infants judged defective. The novel treats political liberation and coercive bodily improvement as a single project, so the utopia's freedoms depend on intensive state control over reproduction and physical life.
