  1. Religionless Christianity for a world come of age

Humanity has reached an adulthood in which it explains the world without appealing to God as a working hypothesis, so a faith that relies on human weakness, ignorance, or metaphysical gaps is obsolete. Authentic Christianity must therefore speak of God not at the boundaries of human knowledge but at the centre of life, in strength as well as weakness, without the crutch of 'religion'.

  2. Edges of knowledge are retreating ground for God

Placing God in the unexplained gaps of science and human capability means God is pushed back steadily as those gaps close. Grounding faith on what we do not yet know is a losing strategy; God should be found in what we do know and in the fullness of life rather than only at its limits.

  3. Polyphony of life anchored by one cantus firmus

Earthly loves and commitments can be pursued fully, like counterpoint voices, precisely when one steady melody, love of God, holds firm underneath. The wholehearted love of God does not compete with earthly affections but gives them their ground and their proper limit.

  4. View from below: history seen by the oppressed

Having lived under persecution teaches one to perceive events from the perspective of the outcast, suspected, maltreated, and powerless rather than from the vantage of the comfortable and successful. This standpoint reframes judgment of great events by prioritizing the experience of those who suffer them.
