  1. Izanagi and Izanami's flawed first union

When the primordial couple circled the pillar to mate, the female deity spoke first and they produced a deformed, leech-like child they set adrift. Only after consulting the heavenly deities and reversing the order so the male spoke first did they successfully birth the islands and gods.

  2. Pollution from contact with death

After visiting his dead wife in the underworld and seeing her decaying body, Izanagi flees and purifies himself by bathing, and from this washing further deities are born. Contact with death is treated as a defiling condition requiring cleansing, and that cleansing itself becomes generative.

  3. Imperial authority descends from the sun deity

The chronicle traces the ruling line directly to Amaterasu, the sun goddess, who sends her grandson down to rule the land bearing sacred regalia. Political legitimacy is grounded by anchoring the current dynasty in an unbroken genealogical chain back to the highest heavenly deity.
