Price financial advice as a service
Judge a financial adviser by what the service actually costs in pounds each year and what it specifically delivers, not by the promise of beating the market. Ongoing percentage-of-assets advice fees quietly grow as the pot grows. Fixed or hourly fees for defined tasks, combined with low-cost index funds, often buy the valuable parts of advice (planning, tax structuring, behavioural discipline) far more cheaply.
