  1. Item-by-item listing as margin engine

Each unique vintage piece becomes its own small product launch: it is bought cheaply because the thrift seller misprices it, then its value is raised through styling, model photography that shows fit and attitude, and a named, evocative listing. Photos and copy are adjusted according to which listings draw bids, so the markup comes from presentation and taste, not from the object itself.

  2. Outsider jobs build transferable business skills

Amoruso argues that dead-end retail and service jobs, and even her years of shoplifting and dumpster-diving, taught practical skills: reading customers, noticing what gets overlooked, and doing unglamorous work reliably. On this view, a nonlinear résumé without credentials works as an apprenticeship rather than a deficit, as long as the person pays close attention while doing menial work.
