Escape

  1. Engineered scarcity as a control mechanism

A ruling order can manufacture a social category as rare or nonexistent (here, women) so that its mere existence becomes a crime and a liability. Scarcity is not a background condition but a deliberately produced instrument: controlling who may exist controls what anyone can want or imagine.

  2. A purged category is hidden even from itself

When a type of person is erased from a society, the few survivors must be kept ignorant of their own nature, because self-knowledge would make them unmanageable and unconcealable. The protective adults withhold the girl's identity precisely to keep her safe, so that oppression and care enforce the same silence.

  3. The body as the unit of surveillance

In an authoritarian order, the physical body itself, its sex and its visibility, becomes the primary thing monitored and regulated, so that moving a single anomalous body through space is the central political act. Reading the world this way reframes escape and travel as transgression rather than mere movement.
