   In 1990 Milea transfers from Jakarta to a Bandung high school, and a stranger on a motorbike, Dilan, tells her, 'I predict we will meet in the canteen,' then courts her with odd gestures. He gives her a crossword-puzzle book already filled in so she won't have to think, sends a masseuse when she is ill, and tells her not to miss him because 'it's heavy, you won't be able to bear it, let me do it.' She ends a relationship with her controlling Jakarta boyfriend, and she and Dilan make their relationship official on 22 December 1990 with a handwritten 'proclamation' signed over a revenue stamp.

2. Mock-bureaucratic ritual to formalize intimate commitment

   The couple turns an ambiguous teenage bond into an official commitment by parodying state paperwork: a dated, signed proclamation on a duty stamp. Borrowing the look of legal authority as a joke gives the moment a clear threshold that both people can remember. The play still does the real work of marking a change in status.
