1. Disappearance as grief without an ending

   A disappearance gives the family no body, no confirmed death and no grave, so mourning cannot follow its normal arc to completion. Survivors are caught between hoping and grieving, sometimes for decades. The unanswered question is itself the lasting injury.

2. Children inherit the cost of parents' commitment

   When parents choose revolutionary struggle, their children pay for it with absence, abandonment and unexplained loss they never agreed to. The children's anger can land on the committed parent rather than on the regime that took them. Remembering the resistance honestly means counting what that commitment cost the families.
