Siebert buys an NYSE seat, 1967
In December 1967 Muriel Siebert, a securities analyst who had been paid less than men doing the same work, bought a seat on the New York Stock Exchange for $445,000 plus an initiation fee. She became the first woman member among roughly 1,365 men. Nine of the first ten men she asked to sponsor her application refused, and she stayed the only woman member for about a decade.
