Boca–River rivalry carries a class geography
River Plate was also born in La Boca but moved north and became the 'millonarios', while Boca, after a brief spell in Wilde, returned to the port neighbourhood and built La Bombonera there. Caparrós reads the rivalry as partly a map of class in the city, but he separates adopting working-class cultural values from actually belonging to that class, so supporting Boca is a claim on a popular identity rather than a statement of one's own social position.
