1. Bloodied Dutch youth demands a corporate lawyer

   In Oslo a young Dutchman is picked up covered in blood after a small-time drug dealer is found beaten to death. He refuses to speak to anyone except Karen Borg, a business lawyer with no criminal practice, while police attorney Håkon Sand and detective Hanne Wilhelmsen investigate. When a defence lawyer tied to the case is murdered, the trail leads from street-level dealing through a respectable law firm into the political establishment.

   The 'blindness' of justice is meant to ensure impartiality, but it also stops the legal system from seeing wrongdoing by its own members and political patrons. Investigators who follow a case upward meet deference, procedural obstacles, and pressure that street-level suspects never get. Whether a crime gets pursued depends on how close the suspect sits to the people running the system.
