Constable Paul 'Hirsch' Hirschhausen gave evidence against corrupt colleagues in a city squad, and was then demoted and posted alone to Tiverton, a wheat town in South Australia's mid-north. When he investigates gunfire on Bitter Wash Road and a teenage girl is found dead beside the highway, senior rural police treat him as a 'dog' and obstruct him while he uncovers local crime and police cover-up.
