1. Three brothers return to Neshov

   When Anna Neshov suffers a stroke on her pig farm outside Trondheim, her three estranged sons gather: Tor, the pig farmer who never left, Margido, a Trondheim undertaker, and Erlend, a window-dresser in Copenhagen. Tor's adult daughter Torunn, whom he barely knows, joins them. Around the deathbed and funeral the family's paternity secret comes into the open, unsettling brothers who did not know it, though Margido already did.

   A family secret is not just missing information. It is an arrangement the whole household organizes itself around: who speaks to whom, who stays and who leaves, and which subjects feel dangerous.
