1. Building an object teaches its design logic

   Mari argues that physically assembling a piece of furniture from rough boards and nails forces the maker to confront why each joint, dimension, and brace exists. This hands-on reasoning produces a critical understanding of design that passive purchasing never can. The resulting literacy lets people judge manufactured goods by their structure rather than by their styling or marketing.

2. Simple materials keep construction within reach

   The designs rely mainly on rough pine boards, nails, and basic tools, though Mari's technical notes also allow screws and plywood or chipboard tops. Keeping materials and techniques simple makes the pieces buildable by non-specialists and leaves the structural decisions visible to the person assembling them.
