1. Those who left and those who stayed

   Under dictatorship, people who stayed endured an internal exile of fear and silence, while people who left endured distance and nostalgia. Each group tends to see the other's suffering as the lesser one. Because neither can fully convey their experience, reunion brings quiet suspicion, guilt and misunderstanding, not simple rejoicing.

2. Identity rebuilt as provisional scaffolding

   After a rupture, a life is reassembled like scaffolding: temporary supports put up around a structure whose final shape is still unknown. This view treats fragmentary, provisional arrangements as the actual work of reconstruction, not as a failure to become whole. The novel's own form, built from short disconnected pieces, puts this into practice.
