Grandfather's caregiving robot becomes his instrument
In "Tongtong's Summer," an aging grandfather resists a telepresence robot, Ah Fu, that remote human operators use to care for him. He then finds he can operate such robots himself to keep practicing medicine and visiting people from a distance. The same device that marked his dependence becomes the way he restores his agency and social usefulness.
