A private's Goose Green, 28 May 1982
As a young private in 2 Para, Lukowiak fought through the Battle of Goose Green on East Falkland, where roughly 500 paratroopers attacked a larger dug-in Argentine garrison across open ground. Their commanding officer, Lt Col H. Jones, was killed, and the Argentine forces surrendered the next day. His account records the killing, the looting of the dead, the gallows jokes and the dazed aftermath, told at section level rather than as a victory narrative, so it stands as ground-level evidence against any tidy account of how battles are experienced.
