Corpses with ancient coins at monuments
In Ahmet Ümit's novel, Istanbul homicide chief Nevzat and his team find a series of bodies at landmarks of the city's historic peninsula, the first at the Atatürk statue at Sarayburnu. Each victim clutches an antique coin from a different period of the city's past. The investigation advances only as Nevzat decodes which era each site and coin points to, until the trail reaches the people who value, profit from, or want to rewrite the old city.
