1. Snowbound train passengers and a murdered priest

   An Oslo–Bergen train derails in a violent blizzard near Finse, 1,222 metres above sea level, and its passengers take shelter in the old mountain hotel there while the storm cuts off all rescue and police access. When a priest is found dead, Hanne Wilhelmsen investigates. She is a retired detective paralysed by a bullet and travelling as an ordinary passenger. With no forensic support, no authority and no way out, she works through a closed pool of suspects before the weather lifts.

2. Isolation breeds fear while existing roles persist

   Cut off from rescue and police by the storm, the stranded hotel guests show fear, rumour and a readiness to scapegoat. Order does not collapse, though: authority stays with people whose existing roles carry weight. These include Hanne's police experience, Berit's position managing the hotel and Streng's standing as a doctor.

3. The immobile observer sees what actors miss

   Because the detective cannot move, she cannot chase leads or search rooms. Her method becomes sustained watching, listening and reasoning from a fixed point. People underestimate a wheelchair user and speak carelessly around her, which gives her information that an active, visibly powerful investigator would never receive.
