  1. Tempo as Emotional Pacing of Decisions

Tempo is the felt rhythm of activity in a situation — the rate, momentum, and emotional coloring of decisions and actions over time. Effective action requires reading and matching this tempo rather than treating decisions as isolated rational choices made outside of time.

  2. Mental Models as Inhabited Narratives

People act not from explicit data but from internalized narratives that supply a sense of situation, identity, and trajectory. Decisions are driven by which story you currently inhabit, so changing behavior means changing the narrative frame rather than supplying more facts.

  3. Liberation Versus Annihilation Endings

Every narrative reaches an end-state that is either a liberation (the situation resolves into expanded freedom and new possibilities) or an annihilation (the situation collapses into closure and loss of agency). How you steer a course of action depends on which kind of ending you are driving toward.

  4. Double Freytag Mood-Energy Cycle

Activity moves through a cycle alternating high and low energy with high and low certainty, producing distinct moods like calm, anxiety, flow, and despair. Recognizing which phase of the cycle you are in tells you whether to push, conserve, explore, or wait rather than applying constant effort.

  5. Cheap Trick Versus Deep Insight

Situations can be resolved either by a cheap trick — a quick exploit of local structure that works for a specific case — or a deep insight that restructures understanding for an entire class of problems. Skilled actors deliberately choose cheap tricks when speed matters and reserve costly deep insight for recurring, high-leverage patterns.

  6. Universal History and Local Tempo

Any actor operates inside a larger 'universal history' of slow background forces while also living in a faster local tempo of immediate decisions. Mismatches arise when fast local action ignores slow structural constraints, so strategy means aligning your personal rhythm with the deeper clock of the environment.
